Black Friday - Ex-Marine stabbed in the back while volunteering for Toys for Tots

A US Marine reservist was stabbed in the back when a suspected Black Friday shoplifter fled a Best Buy store in Augusta, Ga., The Augusta Chronicle reported.

A man was seen on the store's security cameras attempting to steal a laptop computer about 1:15pm local time Friday. He became upset when store employees asked him to return the laptop, store sales manager Orvin Smith said.

“He was really irate. A whole lot of energy,” said Smith. “We basically tried to get him to let go of a laptop. In doing that, he finally let go of the laptop, ran out the front door, knocked one of my employees down and pulled out a knife so he could make sure he could get out the front door.”

The victim, identified as Cpl. Phillip Duggan, 24, was collecting toys for the Toys for Tots charity at the store with three other Marines. Smith said the Marines clotheslined the suspected shoplifter, at which point he began waving the knife around and stabbed Duggan in the back.
